WBI Annual Spring Membership Meeting & Presentation:
May 4, 2017 / The Glen Lodge / 6pm
Invasive Species Impacts and Native Alternative Benefits
Warrensburgh Beautification Inc. (WBI) will host its Annual Spring Membership Meeting & Presentation on Wednesday evening, May 4, 2017 at The Glen Lodge Bed & Breakfast located at the Glen on Route 28 in Warrensburgh. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m., Pot Luck Dinner and Business Meeting at 6 p.m. and Presentation at 7:00 p.m. Our guest speaker, Zachary Simek, is the Terrestrial Invasive Species Project Coordinator for APIPP – The Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program. This program serves as the Adirondack Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM), one of eight partnerships across New York State. APIPP is a program founded by the Adirondack Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, NYS State Department of Environmental Conservation, NYS State Department of Transportation, and NYS State Adirondack Park Agency whose mission is to protect the Adirondack region from the negative impacts of invasive species. Invasive species can significantly impact the Adirondack environment, economy, and human health. Many of the existing infestations in the Adirondack region originated from ornamental or landscape plantings. This informative PowerPoint presentation will provide an overview of common terrestrial invasive plants to avoid, their associated impacts, and favorable native alternatives. In addition, Kathy Vanselow, a certified herbicide inoculator who will be working to reduce the spread and hopefully, in time, eradicate the problem of Japanese Knotweed in Warrensburgh, will be describing the environmentally safe treatment process that she will be employing.
All are welcome to attend and encouraged to bring friends. Please RSVP Teresa Whalen, Chairperson at 466-5497 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
