Pack Forest

Located off Route 9, at 276 Pack Forest Road – Look for their sign on Route 9

Pack Forest is a DEC operated summer camp that offers 2,500 acres of forest lands, including an 85-acre lake, countless miles of trails leading to mountain vistas, marshes and the banks of the Hudson River. Guests stay in cabins that can hold 15 to 20 campers.  Week long sessions are held from July through August. Come see nature first hand.

Schroon River Campsites

Hickory Ski Center

Located at 43 Hickory Hill Road (near the Warrensburg / Thurman Bridge)   

Hickory Ski Center offers skiers of all ages and skill levels more than five miles of skiing on 18, beginner to expert trails. Glade skiing, Bump Runs, and groomed intermediate slopes. Take in breathtaking & beautiful vista views of the Hudson River and Adirondack Mountains while, at the same time navigating and enjoying the excitement of their slopes. Opened in 1942, Hickory Hill is considered by many to be one of the areas most beautiful and challenging ski slopes. Daily, package, group rates & seasonal tickets are available. [Don’t feel like driving? Not to worry, just take the Saratoga & North Creek Snow Train (www.SNCRR.com). The train connects with Amtrak (www.amtrak.com) and runs round-trip from Saratoga to the Thurman Stop, just across the Hudson River on its way to North Creek allowing for easy pick-up and drop-off for a perfect, relaxing trip along the scenic Hudson River. Warren County Nature & Cross Country Ski Trails

Located off Golf Course Road – Look for sign & parking area near Cronins Golf Resort. 

This area offers hikers and cross country skiers alike a nice and convenient access to the nearby nature trails and access to the crystal-clear Upper Hudson River. Views of Thurman are just across the river...Great for fishing, picnicking and shallow-water wading.  Unusual rock formations at river’s edge.  Moderate hiking trails.

Warrensburg Boat Launch

Located on Route 418 by the Hydro Dam – Look for sign

Offers canoe, rowboat and kayak access on the south-western portion of Warrensburg onto Schroon River Pond.  Many boaters enjoy a leisurely and relaxing time, floating or paddling along this portion of the Schroon River with its picturesque, serene surroundings. A great spot to fish right off your boat!


Warrensburg has a nice snowmobile trail system on which one can travel throughout the countryside, into other nearby towns and beyond. Snowmobile trails are well groomed and are part of the North Warren Trail System.

There is NO FEE to use Warren County Snowmobile trails however Snowmobiles need to be registered in New York State to use the trails.

- Trail Access and Parking -

Access:  There are a few snowmobile access points in Warrensburg most of which are off main roads.  The main access points are off Rt. 9 and can be seen from the roadway. Another access point is from Echo Lake, off Hudson Street. There’s also access off Rt. 418, just before the bridge to Thurman on Hickory Hill Road, the access road to the Hickory Ski center (see link for more info @ http://www.thurmanconnection.com  

Parking: There are two (2) parking areas that allow both parking for vehicles and their trailers and access to the Warren County Snowmobile Trail system.  One is at the Echo Lake Lodge, off Hudson Street and the other one is at the Lucky Star Restaurant, just north of the Hamlet on Rt. 9.

- Registration / Licenses - 

Snowmobiles need to be registered in NYS to use the trails...NYS registration is $100.

[Note: If you join a club at $25 membership, then the cost to register in NYS is only $45 ($25 + $45 NYSDMV = $70) a $30 saving]

Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

Warrensburg offers cross-country ski trails in three beautiful settings (two of which also allow snowshoeing). Below is a listing of locations / access points and parking areas:

- Pack Forest -

Located at 136 Pack Forest Road – Just a few miles north of the Hamlet, off Rt. 9

Lake George Wild Forest / Hudson River Recreation Area

Located off Golf Course Road – Look for sign & parking lot (near Cronin’s Golf Resort)

This area offers a two mile novice trail and a 3.5 mile intermediate to expert Nordic trail. Trails run through the wooded, nature trail park and Cronin’s Golf Course with scenic views of the Hudson River. http://www.warrencountydpw.com/Parks_Rec07/X_Ski.htm  

- Hackensack Mountain Park -

Located off Sunset Avenue / Prospect Street intersections – Look for sign & parking lot [Note location – Not available at Hackensack Avenue access point] 

This park offers both cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at base of mountain trail

Ice Skating

Ice skating facilities are located at the Warrensburg Recreation Field, Library Avenue, across from the school playground, under the pavilion.  Ice skating is subject to weather and other conditions.

- Activities are subject to local weather conditions and may or may not be available.
